Inventory the cabin state
Record software version, available languages, navigation provider, account region, app binding, digital keys, physical keys, camera views and assistance menus. Save dated screenshots tied to the VIN before any reset.
Remove temporary dependencies
Test essential drive, charge, climate, camera and safety controls without the seller’s phone, hotspot or personal account. Confirm how ownership is transferred and whether a factory reset removes settings, keys or downloaded functionality.
Separate hardware from service
A modem, NFC reader, camera or display can remain installed while cloud access, maps, voice services or remote control fail in the destination. Price the reliable local baseline and treat remote features as unconfirmed until demonstrated.
Test assistance responsibly
Check sensor cleanliness, calibration warnings and function availability under safe, lawful conditions. Driver assistance is not autonomous driving. Confirm destination rules and do not promise that a different software region will legalise or improve a feature.
Control updates and modifications
Record outstanding campaigns and official update paths. Avoid unofficial firmware, region changes or account workarounds that can disable systems, complicate diagnosis or breach terms. Back up evidence before any authorised change.
Prepare the handover file
List working local functions, verified online services, limitations, keys, accounts removed, reset status and buyer actions. Give the destination workshop the version record. A future update should not be presented as a guaranteed cure for an open limitation.
Condition file close-out
Close this specific file by placing dated software screen set, key and account inventory and offline essential-function test in one dated candidate record. The reviewer should be able to confirm that seller accounts are removed safely and that local and cloud functions are separated. Name the person or provider responsible for every unresolved point, add a realistic cost or consequence, and state what evidence will change the decision. If the VIN, version, condition or destination basis changes, reopen this file instead of carrying the previous conclusion into a different purchase.
Decision boundary
A useful decision records what is verified, what remains seller-stated and what was not tested. Attach a consequence and owner to each open item. Do not let a broad assurance replace a missing VIN record, charge test, condition image or destination opinion. Acceptance should be explicit: proceed, proceed with a priced condition, obtain more evidence, or reject. A replacement VIN never inherits an earlier acceptance.
Document discipline
Give images, scans, diagnostics and quotations a date, source and vehicle identity. Preserve originals before translation or editing. If custody, software, repair, route or candidate changes, identify which conclusions expire and repeat the affected checks instead of silently carrying them forward. Before inland release, read the same identity, propulsion, value and parties across contract, invoice, inspection and shipping drafts. Registration and customs remain separate destination checks.
