Identify the installed battery
Match the factory configuration, battery label and diagnostic identifiers. European literature has listed 82.5 and 91.3 kWh packs, while other markets may differ. Never infer capacity from the advertised range or exterior grade alone.
Read diagnostic evidence in context
Capture state of health where the vehicle exposes a meaningful value, cell-voltage spread, temperatures, isolation status, fault history and charge counts. Note state of charge and ambient temperature. A single dashboard percentage cannot describe energy capacity or cell balance.
Run a controlled road segment
Start and finish with recorded state of charge, distance, energy display, weather, speed, elevation, tyres, passenger load and climate use. The purpose is not a laboratory certificate; it is to detect implausible consumption, warning behaviour or thermal limitation.
Observe charging and temperature
Record pack temperature, delivered energy, time, interruptions and charge curve on compatible equipment. High initial power for a few minutes does not prove sustained performance. A cold or nearly full pack can legitimately charge more slowly, so state the test conditions.
Build route reserves
Model the longest ordinary leg, adverse weather and charger failure. Preserve a reserve appropriate to the destination and recovery options. Range estimates should fall when speed, headwind, heating, load or unsuitable tyres increase consumption.
Translate findings into value
Price a candidate from demonstrated usable performance, remaining warranty eligibility where transferable, service access and unresolved risks. Do not convert a generic online degradation story into a diagnosis. If the test is inconclusive, make further evidence a purchase condition.
Energy file close-out
Close this specific file by placing battery identity and capacity record, full high-voltage diagnostic report and controlled drive log in one dated candidate record. The reviewer should be able to confirm that pack identity matches the listing and that temperature is recorded with diagnostics. Name the person or provider responsible for every unresolved point, add a realistic cost or consequence, and state what evidence will change the decision. If the VIN, version, condition or destination basis changes, reopen this file instead of carrying the previous conclusion into a different purchase.
Decision boundary
A useful decision records what is verified, what remains seller-stated and what was not tested. Attach a consequence and owner to each open item. Do not let a broad assurance replace a missing VIN record, charge test, condition image or destination opinion. Acceptance should be explicit: proceed, proceed with a priced condition, obtain more evidence, or reject. A replacement VIN never inherits an earlier acceptance.
Document discipline
Give images, scans, diagnostics and quotations a date, source and vehicle identity. Preserve originals before translation or editing. If custody, software, repair, route or candidate changes, identify which conclusions expire and repeat the affected checks instead of silently carrying them forward. Before inland release, read the same identity, propulsion, value and parties across contract, invoice, inspection and shipping drafts. Registration and customs remain separate destination checks.
